Sun-Maid Review

Raisins are important in your diet. Whether you sprinkle them in yogurt, cereal, cookies, breads, etc there is no wrong way to eat and enjoy them. They are very beneficial to your health.

Sun-Maid has served consumers and customers since 1912 by providing premium quality raisins and dried fruits from the raisin and fruit farms of California to homes and eating establishments around the world. As a cooperative, Sun-Maid Growers of California is owned by family farmers who grow raisin grapes all located within 100 miles of each other in the Great Central Valley of California, midway between Los Angeles to the south and San Francisco to the north.

I was sent a variety of Sun-Maid products to try. I received a package of dry halved apricots, a bag of mixed jumbo raisins, small individual packages of natural California raisins, and individual small packages of dried cranberries. Then finally I received a box of golden raisins.

The dried halved apricots smell very fresh and fruity. It's soft to the touch with a soft toasted orange color to it. When you bite into it, it's soft but has a firm texture at the same time. The flavor of the apricot is subtle but apparent. It's sweet but not overly sweet. Out of all of the flavors I tried, I liked the apricots the best.

The first thing that you notice about the jumbo mixed raisins is how large they are compared to a normal sized raisin. The colors in the bag range from dark purple to brown and then finally to red. The scent of the raisin is not overly strong, but has a light fruity scent. The raisin is denser because of its size. The flavor is stronger than the apricot, and also has a burst of fruit flavor when you bite into it. It's chewier than the apricot too.

The dried cranberries have a deep reddish color to them, and are the same size as a normal raisin. The flavor is tart but sweet at the same time. The combination of tart and sweet is pleasant.

I had never heard of the golden raisin before receiving the product. I find it a very unique food. The color is very different than any other color of raisin I have ever seen before. It's sort of a dark tannish color. It has no real distinct smell. The taste is very mild with a hint of a sweet flavor, but the flavor is not extremely powerful. These were not one of my favorites.

The regular California raisins are a childhood staple. When I looked at the box, I was instantly brought back to my childhood when I constantly ate these. They are delicious, chewy, and bursting with great flavor. They are definitely a classic.

These raisins are great for taking to work, sticking in a child's lunchbox, traveling or on the go, or just as a quick pick me up snack. The raisins range from 80-100 calories for the entire box, depending on what kind you have. These are great healthy snacks that are sure to satisfy and keep your body in check.
